BARF proQ Fish and Evening Primrose Oil Mix, 250 ml

This fish oil is produced from sardines, anchovies, herrings and mackerel and contains approx. 30% of the long-chain polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA are largely a product of marine organisms and are of essential importance for all mammals. Mammals, including dogs, can form the long-chain acids out of the short-chain omega-3 fatty acids ALA (alpha-linolenic acids), but this does not always seem to be the case.

The evening primrose oil is high in linoleic and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). GLA occurs in nature only in a few vegetable oils and can be converted by dogs (but not cats) from linoleic acid.

The addition of natural vitamin E increases the resistance of the oils to the oxygen in the air, while also providing extra vitamin E requirements for the intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Storage

Polyunsaturated fatty acids are sensitive to light and oxygen. Higher temperatures contribute to their decomposition. Therefore the oil should be kept in a dark cool place and the bottle should be tightly sealed after each use.

Consume within eight weeks after opening.

Feeding recommendations

The daily requirement of polyunsaturated fatty acids depends on the size, age, level of activity and fat content of other feed ingredients. For instance, large dogs will require less in relation to their body weight than smaller dogs. It is therefore important to observe the dog’s condition and adjust the amount required accordingly. If, for instance, the dog’s coat looks lacklustre and scaly, you can try to increase the dose. One or two teaspoonfuls of oil a day per 10 kg of weight is generally a good starting point.

Important: Always cover the oil mix with the feed.
